Making A Real Difference
Welcome, I’m Sheriff Vernon Betts and I’m running for re-election to continue to serve the citizens of St. Louis. Below are three key areas where we have made a real difference. I pledge to continue to implement the highest standards of training, insist on the best performance from those under my supervision, and provide superior security for our court system. I will also continue to be an outspoken advocate for public safety, getting illegal guns off our streets, combating domestic abuse, and deterring young people from criminal activity. I would greatly appreciate your vote on Tuesday August 6th in the Democratic Primary. Courthouse Security
Sheriff Betts has made the security of our courts a top priority. Not only for the safety of judges, court employees, and attorneys, but the hundreds of citizens that serve as jurors every year. He wants jurors to know they are in a safe environment. That security includes the safe transportation of prisoners for trial and securing bodycams for deputies serving restraining and other court orders.
Professionalism
As promised, Vernon Betts became the first Sheriff in St. Louis to offer deputies the opportunity to become Post Certified in 2021. He worked right alongside his deputies and also became Post Certified which is the highest form of training for any law enforcement officer across the USA. He will continue to emphasize the professionalism and training of his employees.
Public Safety
With the SLPD experiencing staff shortages, having well trained deputies with police powers has allowed the Sheriff’s Department to supplement police security at sporting venues, parades, and other public events. In addition, Sheriff Betts has deputies patrol areas of downtown around the courts to help citizens, businesses, and visitors feel more secure.
